The method

What goes on the page

Six lines, in this order. That is the whole system.

  1. Write it down.
  2. Keep the list short.
  3. Decide the next step before you need it.
  4. Put the time where you can see it.
  5. Put the answer next to the task.
  6. Plan for the week you miss.
Line six is the one that matters most. There is going to be a week where you do none of it, and the recovery is one step long. You open the page and write this week. Nothing to rebuild.
Where it comes from

Built from scratch in episode one

This page is what gets built in episode one of One Tool at a Time. Four of the six lines have published research behind them. Two are design choices, and the episode says out loud which two.

The longer version is also free

The Even Keel First-Action Kit is five pages rather than one. A brain dump page for everything in your head, a daily board with one thing for NOW and two for NEXT, a card that turns one phone alarm into your reminder system, and a page on where the ideas come from. You can type into it or print it.
